Pathway to Success and Notable Achievements

    An Early Breakthrough in Politics

In 2000, Bill initiated his public service journey by clinching the First Supervisorial District seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Aged 29, he made his first significant political stride, outshining an incumbent to set forth on a path of influential contributions.

County Supervisor and Proponent of Fiscal Discipline

Upon election as county supervisor for the First Supervisorial District of San Bernardino County, Bill became the voice of over 450,000 people. As a fiscal conservative, he tirelessly campaigned for reduced taxes and balanced budgets to secure the region's financial stability. His term featured staunch support for law enforcement initiatives to curb gang violence and efforts to amplify cities' roles in county governance. Furthermore, he emphasized renewing infrastructure and enhancing road conditions within his jurisdiction.

    Successful Second Term and Chairmanship

Bill's dedicated performance won over voters, yielding 82 percent support in the 2004 re-election. As he began his second term, his colleagues unanimously elected him as the board chair, an honor he held for two years. During his chairmanship, San Bernardino County undertook critical ethics reforms, took rigorous actions against sexual offenders, and achieved fiscal balance while fostering job growth and investments.

Bill Postmus was the principal author of two pivotal voter-endorsed initiatives, which effectively reformed term limits for elected supervisors and curtailed governmental overreach in terms of eminent domain.

Measure P, which proposed term limits on county supervisors, received resounding approval from voters and was well-received by government reform and public watchdog groups.

Measure O, an issue particularly significant to Supervisor Postmus, tackled the issue of local governments seizing private property, a practice recently endorsed by a US Supreme Court decision (Kelo vs. Norwalk).

Bill authored an initiative to limit public agencies from engaging in such actions. Once approved by county voters, Measure O prohibited the county from using eminent domain to obtain property for transfer to another private entity.

He was humbled to find his standpoint on eminent domain restrictions resonated with countywide voters, leading to the measure's approval.

County Assessor and Advocate for Modernization

After his board chairmanship, Hel was appointed county assessor, a position he secured by triumphing over a 12-year incumbent who had lost voter confidence. As the San Bernardino County Assessor, Bill instituted significant departmental modernization initiatives, streamlined processes, and facilitated substantial property tax savings for the county's taxpayers.

    Dedication to Civic Engagement

Over the years, Bill has shown an unyielding commitment to civic participation and public policy dialogue. Between 2004 and 2007, he presided as the county chair of the San Bernardino County Republican Party, making notable strides in several leadership campaigns. Of note is his spearheading of Jessica's Law, a critical piece of legislation designed to combat recurrent and habitual sexual offenders. His monumental fundraising effort of over four million dollars for Republican Party causes, and candidates set an unprecedented record.

    Personal Pursuits and Passions
